HISTORY OF THE SAINTS

When St. Mary’s GAA Club was formed in 1960, it consisted of both a football and hurling team.

The hurling team won the County Junior Hurling Championship in 1962.

The team included four sets of brothers from Limerick: the Kennedy's - Peter, Tom, Paddy and Seamus; the O'Shea's - Pat, Joe and Denny; the Cotters - Peter, Gerry and Tom; and the Dineens - John and Michael. The team also had Con O'Connell, John Brennan and Jimmy Howard from Limerick, along with Mick Foley from Kilkenny and Mick Mullen from Cork.

St. Mary’s hurling team were a force to be reckoned with, and as such, players were chosen to represent Warwickshire at County level.

During the early 1970's, due to a lack of numbers, the club was forced to fold.

In 1991, a group of former St. Mary’s players and officials, Larry McAulliffe, Patsy McGuckin and Kevin Reynolds, along with Pat Guiton, Martin Ryan, Martin Garvey and Vince Keane decided to resurrect the club.

In 1999, the team beat St. Chads in a hard fought Junior Championship Final, where they triumphed by 9 points. in the same year, St. Mary’s won the league over St. Brendan’s, completing the double!

In 2006, the club, now at Intermediate level, beat John Mitchels in the Championship Final with goals from Liam Hickey and Pete McLoughlin assisting in a 9 point victory.

2010 to 2020 was a tremendously successful decade for the club. In 2010, St. Mary’s, now firmly established at Intermediate level, won the Intermediate Championship, the Mulligan Cup, the Intermediate League and capped off the season by beating Wolverhampton Wolverines Aussie Rules Club in the club's first International Rules game.

The 2020’s has so far been a momentous decade for St. Mary’s as the club established its first ever Senior Ladies team in its 60+ year history. Not only this, but thanks to numerous sponsorship agreements, the club was able to form formidable U7’s, U9’s, U11’s and U13’s squads to compete in various Blitz competitions throughout the County.
